Vision 2020

Posted on January 11, 2020September 21, 2021 by Susan Mannix

Welcome 2020!

Yeah, it’s over a week late but I’m notorious for not being on time. I wish I had made at least one Christmas post. It’s my hands-down favorite time of the year. The rush of the holidays, which included a trip up to New York to visit family, sidelined me. Weak excuse, but there it is.

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions. I’ve had too many fall by the wayside well by the time the flowers start blooming. I do, however, love clean slates and fresh beginnings. They lend themselves to setting new goals…without a time stamp.

I wrote down mine in one of my many journals (I love notebooks more than Imelda Marcos loved shoes). Here are a few:

  1. Serve God in EVERYTHING. Without this, and Him, the rest would be pointless. He is the purpose, the reason for all.
  2. Keep writing. Whether it be my WIP, a pretty journal, or this blog my aspiration is to keep the words flowing consistently. I have been abysmal at that in the past, but hope for ’20 and beyond, that changes. I’ve set specific writing goals as well, which include revisions, rewrites and queries. I also want to get back to a conference and take the leap and join a new critique group.
  3. Stay Creative. While I have everyday as well as lofty long-term goals for my writing, it is equally important for me to feed my creativity. I’ve picked crocheting back up. Honestly, I’m not very good at it and that’s okay. I want to make simple things for my family and home (key word: simple). I neither have the patience nor the talent to aspire to anything more. But, I do love color and texture, and crocheting projects feeds that.
  4. De-clutter my house. Our home is small with no basement and we’ve been here for 22 years. We’ve accumulated stuff. Lots of stuff. It’s time to cull out a few things that matter and then get rid of the rest. Some will be unceremoniously trashed in the county landfill and some will hopefully be of use to someone else. Either way, it’s time to get it out of my home!

To give goal #4 a good start, the first thing I have to do is take down my Christmas tree. Yes, it’s still up. I never take it down until after the Epiphany. And yes, I know that was almost a week ago. Don’t judge me. I love my tree and was in no hurry to pack it away.

See? It’s a lovely tree. Wait, does this count as a Christmas post? I think it does!

I hope all who set eyes on this have a most blessed and magical 2020. Take a moment and comment below on what colors you’d like to paint across the blank canvas of the new year. I’d love to hear about it!
